[Eng] Start My New Blog in English / Bahasa Indonesia

Today (27 May 2020), I want to start my new blog "Glocal Diary for Local-to-Local" as a brother or sister blog of my Japanese private blog "Glocal Nikki (Glocal Diary in English)".

This new blog will be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia.

I will write about my daily life, my thoughts, my ideas, my comments, favorite foods, and anything else what I want to write. In short, my monologue.

Sometimes maybe just translation from my Japanese blog.

I try to update every 2-3 days. Please keep this blog and enjoy my monologue. Of course, very welcome your questions and comments.

Now I stay and work at my home in Tokyo. Enjoy to walk around my home to feel spring season this year, as seeing "rose garden" in front of our railway station.

[Eng] Higher "Cultural Standard" ?

Why are there fewer corona deaths in Japan than in Western countries? When asked so, Japan's deputy prime minister Mr. Taro Aso replied that it was because the "cultural standard" is different. "Cultural standard"? He said that the "cultural standard# of Japan is higher than other countries. This was the result of voluntary restraint of Japanese people, without the government taking any strong measures. As it say, Japanese people have higher "cultural standard" than other countries. It is true that the number of corona deaths in Japan is much lower than in the West. However, it is actually one of the highest compared to other Asian countries. If compared with other Asian countries, we can say that Japan has lower "cultural standard". I remember two things. First, the reason Japan started World War II was the idea of a superior Japan liberating a lagging Asia. It was said that civilized Japan had to teach and guide other Asia that had not...

[Eng] Cosmopolitan Localism and Trust

Recently, I am interested in the role of design for social innovation. Last month, I have known an Italian designer, Prof. Ezio Manzini, who wrote his book, titled "Design, When Everybody Designs: An Introduction to Design for Social Innovation". I have not yer read this book until now, but tried to watch his lecture video on this book. I learned the viewpoint of designer on social innovation, especially from social problems to social sustainability via social innovation. There are many points as he mentioned about the role of designers for social innovation. In different ways from it, I have learned the same thing as the role of facilitator or catalyst as strangers to local community. The basic role of designer looks like the same as that of facilitator.  Especially, I focused on his word "cosmopolitan localism". He tries to avoid extreme "globalization" and extreme "localization". Local community should keep a kind of equilibrium between them a...
